DevLog #2 - progress on the game


It's nearing the end of the year, and I want to share some updates.

Note: this update will not be live yet. I will have a major update coming later.

First things first:

TWO NEW Live2D character sprites! 

Sol first appeared during the first day of class without a sprite. Now you can meet her in person!

(i spent an ungodly amount of time fixing her animation lol you can see in the video) She has three outfits, fully animated.

Another is Sairai, one of the Sage Council agents. I gave her a lot of bounce to give her that unreal vibes. Out of every character, she is the first one to be conceptualized (way back in 2013) and even has her own spinoff novella in Thai. She does have her own story introduced later in the game. Her design hasn't changed at all since 2013 and I don't know if I should be concerned that I'm out of my middle school edgy weeb phase yet or no...

Animation updates:

  • Auburn’s hair physics is now more flowy and bouncy.
  • Fixed Auburn's necklace physics...to a certain extent.
  • Adjusted Kaew’s sword position to reflect the actual martial arts form his sword style is based off of. Wouldn’t say it’s 100% accurate due to some limitations but I really tried…
  • Changed Xiao’s shirt and adjusted his earring and necklace animations
  • Added Destroyer’s bayonet animation! She now shows her bayonet in battle scenes, including previously released scenes. I'm SO excited 'cause she looks so much more interesting now.
  • Sadayu has a bow animation now. I only got to the part where he moves it up and draws it. I probably will not make an actual arrow shooting animation, I'm already happy with what I have now hehe.
  • Added Lilith's blinking animation. You can check the animation and tutorial here.

Content:

  • Added new character: Sairai 
  • Added camera work to the first scene of the game
  • Added a lot more content, up to route branching.
  • Started working on Vichien's route. Each route will be about 20k words (the Thai version is along that length) so there will be lots of content!

GUI:

  • Changed to white palette instead of black
  • Changed textboxes! Lilith has her own unique text box, as well as some other characters.
  • Added phone system!  Used Nighten's "yet another phone" for this. I love how it turned out, though it ran into some issues with the Thai text clipping the top off that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix lol.


I just started a new job this December and it's already taking a toll on me haha... but I'm still working on this project every other day. I'll have more exciting updates for the next Dev Log for sure.
